Ahmed & Qazi successfully represented its long-standing client, Geo News, in proceedings before the PEMRA Council of Complaints arising from the regulatory action relating to its Muharram transmission, securing a favourable outcome that resulted in the channel’s restoration and resumption of transmission.
Geo News is one of the largest channels in the country and is owned by the Geo/Jang Group, the largest media group in Pakistan.
The proceedings raised important questions concerning broadcast regulation, procedural fairness, and the intersection of Shariah considerations with Pakistan’s electronic media regulatory framework. The matter is of particular significance as it establishes an important precedent on the treatment of Shariah-related issues within the regulation of electronic media broadcasting.
