Ahmed & Qazi is pleased to announce that, after several months of effort and in collaboration with KPMGジャパン/KPMG Japan and KPMG In Pakistan, we have successfully acted as lead counsel to Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. Japan and Yamaha Motor Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd. in the discontinuation of motorcycle production in Pakistan, and the resultant downsizing of its workforce and operations.
Yamaha’s decision marks a significant development for Pakistan’s automobile sector, and signals the exit of one of the largest motorcycle brands in the country. Subsequently, Yamaha Motor Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd.‘s operations will remain limited to providing spare parts, warranty services and customer support.
A&Q provided the full suite of commercial and labour services in this matter, including with respect to the downsizing of workers, the renegotiation of existing contracts and dealership agreements, and the securing of all necessary approvals from the relevant ministries and departments.
A&Q team for this matter was led by Saim Hashmi and Nazif Ahmed, with support from a team of associates at the firm.
